Roller Derby wannabees will have the opportunity to strap on some skates and have a go at Ballarat Roller Derby League’s upcoming “Fresh Meat” recruitment session on Sunday April 22 from 6pm at Doug Dean Stadium in Delacombe.
Ballarat Roller Derby League is looking for skaters, referees and off-skates volunteers who are looking to participate in this exciting, adrenaline-fueled sport. New trainees (known as ‘Fresh Meat’) are provided with all the equipment they need to get up and rolling. The League can provide skates, protective gear and even teach new members to skate. Ballarat Roller Derby League are mixed gender, so membership is open to men and women.
“Roller Derby is the fastest growing sport in Australia” says Mabel Stark (aka Sarah Hirst), League President. “Although we are the only regional area in Victoria without a roller skating rink, we are excited to be able to provide the Ballarat region with the opportunity to come along and watch a scrimmage, meet our current skaters and find out more.“

The favor was returned early last month when five Rat Pack skaters took the trip to Keysborough to fill the ranks of South Sea's two home teams, The Cut Throat Charmers and the Dolly Rogers.
